FIDA Kwara Decries The Alarming Trend of Incest
The International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) in Kwara on Friday 27th April, 2018 advised parents to watch over their children, particularly female to guard them against incest, rape and indecent assault.
Its Chairperson, Mrs. Salmah Iyabode Mohammed, made the appeal in Ilorin during a sensitisation walk in Ilorin as part of the activities marking the 2018 FIDA week. She expressed worry over the new trends of incest, rape and indecent assault cases in the society.

WIFE OF KEBBI STATE GOVERNOR DR ZAINAB BAGUDU COLLABORATE WITH FIDA KEBBI TO FREE 30 INMATES.
Her Excellency Dr. Zainab Atiku Bagudu in collaboration with the International Federation of Women Lawyers, FIDA Kebbi has paid outstanding fines to free up to 30 inmates from prison. The governor’s wife also donated food, clothing other assorted items to the 329 inmates of the New Birnin Kebbi Prison.
The prisoners to be freed were carefully selected by a joint committee of Women Lawyers, Prisons Officials and Social workers to rehabilitate those freed. Chairperson of the committee Barrister Maryam Kaoje said the prisoners to benefit are those with health challenges, the reformed, and those about to complete their prison terms but have some fines.
The Governor’s wife who was represented by Hajiya Maimuna Jega called on the inmates to take skills acquisition given to them very seriously and as a measure of ensuring their proper integration into the society at the end of their prison term.
Some inmates who made their opinion known during the visit called on the State Government under the leadership of Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu to as a matter of urgency come to their aid by restoring/repairing their source of water.
In his remarks, the State Comptroller of Prisons represented by Assistant Comptroller Mahmud Umar Mato commended Her Excellency for the humanitarian gesture calling on members of the Society to emulate her. He recalled that this was the second time they were receiving such wonderful support from her which he described as apt and timely promising to consider inmates that fell within the category of exemplary conduct.

Say NO to election violence
It is global knowledge that Ekiti State Gubernatorial Election is this week Saturday, precisely on the 14th of July.
Many institutions; corporate bodies , NGOs, political parties and governmental parasatals have invested and still investing so much time energy and invaluable resources into ensuring a free and fair as well as non violent governorship election in Ekiti State.
To start with Fida Ekiti commends the efforts of INEC in the state in educating sensitizing and training of different stakeholders in the election process. We pray all the efforts shall yield desired results in Jesus name. Amen
We commend the enormous efforts our various partners especially BIGIF, and it’s ED Tunmininu Tumininu Adedeji and NISD have put in and are still putting towards more women involvement in decision making process and peaceful election in Ekiti. We must appreciate the efforts of the the media; NUJ, NAWOJ. Women Wing of NLC Ekiti State and it’s Chair, Ofere Oluwatoyin Ofere Toyin, well done ma’am.
Fida Ekiti through its always ready members and supporters at various times and fora organized, partnered, participated and attended trainings to educate the public on their civic and electoral rights and vigorously campaigned and still campaigning for a peaceful election come Saturday. In furtherance of this, members of the Electoral Committee paid an unscheduled visit to the INEC office last week. Indeed Ekiti State INEC is working round the clock.
