FIDA Oyo Advocacy visit to Jesus Kids Home for the disabled
FIDA Oyo Branch, ably led by the Chairperson ( Mrs. Olusola Sulayman) paid an Advocacy visit to Jesus Kids Home for the disabled (A registered Non-Governmental Organization) which was established to help children who have been abandoned on account of physical challenges, as well as some who have been subjected to rape and abuse.
The visit was in line with FIDA Nigeria’s mandate/strategic plan which is to engender the improved participation of women, youth, and persons living with disabilities in all spheres of human endeavor.
FIDA Oyo was able to create an awareness in the minds of the people at the home, using the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Law of Oyo State, as a point of reference.
The Chairperson appreciated the management of Jesus Kids Home, Pastor Mrs. Ololade Adamolekun for the warm reception accorded FIDA Oyo State. The visit was rounded off with dancing and prayers with and for those domiciled in Jesus Kids Home
Courtesy Visit To The Attorney General And Commissioner For Justice, Oyo State, Ibadan.
FIDA Oyo State Branch, ably led by her Chairperson, Mrs. Olusola Sulayman paid a courtesy/familiarization visit to the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Oyo State, Ibadan on 6th August 2022.
The visit also aimed to strengthen the synergy in the fight against the high incidence of female genital mutilation in Oyo State which according to National data ranks fifth. Oyo State can improve through collaboration in advocacy and sensitization of Women and Youth.
The team was well received by the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice Oyo State Prof. Oyelowo Oyewo SAN. He promised to partner with FIDA Oyo in helping to fight against norms that affect the right of women and children.
Condolence Visit to The Governor of Ondo State
On June 15th, 2022 FIDA Oyo State, graciously received by FIDA Ondo State, paid a condolence visit to the Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu SAN, in the wake of the dastardly murder of worshippers at the Saint Francis Catholic Church, Owo Ondo State. FIDA is vehemently opposed to all manner of violence.

FIDA Oyo Commemorates Children’s Day 2022
FIDA Oyo on the 27th of May, 2022 sensitized the Pupils of Command Children School in Ibadan on the subject of Child Abuse to commemorate Children’s day 2022
The children were educated on the effects of abuse and steps to take when violated. the children responded by singing a song as to what their reaction will be when touched by an abuser
FIDA Oyo has made it part of it’s duty to ensure that children are aware of the Violence Against Person’s Prohibition Law in Oyo State.
The Branch believes that the decay in the society can be prevented if children are properly educated/ sensitized on the dangers of every form of abuses; (domestic violence and rape e.t.c)
World Menstrual Hygiene Day 2022: FIDA Uyo Donates Sanitary Pads to Promote Menstrual Health
As part of the activities to mark this year’s World Menstrual Hygiene Day, FIDA Nigeria, Uyo Branch, and Medical Women’s Association Nigeria (MWAN) Akwa Ibom State Chapter visited Uyo High School, Oron road, Uyo on 24th May 2022.
The event which targeted girls between 13 and 17 years of age had students in SS1, SS2 and SS3 in attendance.
The MWAN members led by Dr. Edesiri Ighorodje taught the female students the importance of menstruation and the need for menstrual hygiene.
In addition, the Chairperson of FIDA Uyo, Bar. Iquo Abia enlightened the girls about criminal sexual offenses and how they can seek help when they are faced with any danger.
The event was rounded off with the distribution of free sanitary pads to the female students.
FIDA Oyo Flags off 16 Days of Activism 2020
FIDA Oyo commenced her 16 days activism against gender-based violence by paying an advocacy visit to the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police at the SCID Iyaganku Ibadan, where the FIDA Nigeria statement was issued, had a discussion on the increased rate of the GBV cases in the state and the way forward.
Partnerships and Collaborations
FIDA LAGOS since this lockdown, has been collaborating with the police, WAPA, especially the director in charge of domestic violence, Mrs. Olorufemi, Domestic & Sexual Violence Response Team (DSVRT) and other NGOs like STAND TO END RAPE(STER) INITIATIVE etc. on GBV cases.
Ekiti branch is in collaboration with the Gender Desk Officer of the Nigerian Police Force Ekiti, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, the S.A. Gender to the Wife of the Governor and some other partners to deal with all cases of GBV during this pandemic.
FIDA OYO enjoys the partnership of the Child Protection Network(CPN), Oyo State GBVRT, NAWOJ, MWAN, JDPC and some other bodies.
FIDA AKWA-IBOM and TARABA are part of their State’s COVID-19 CSOs team to help in sensitizing the public and reporting challenges caused by the pandemic.
FIDA BAYELSA also enjoy good synergy with the Governor’s wife and the Police in curbing GBV cases.
FIDA CROSS RIVER in collaboration with other CSOs have held a virtual meeting proposing measures on how to assist the Ministry of Women Affairs to deal with GBV cases during this pandemic.
