Workshop for Law Enforcement Agents on Violence Against Women
FIDA Nigeria held a one day workshop for Law Enforcement Agents on the prevention and elimination of Violence against Women and Girls.
The workshop was facilitated by Subomi Chuku, National Program Manager of FIDA Nigeria and Ifeanyi Iloba, National Program Officer of FIDA Nigeria.
The workshop began with some welcome remarks delivered by Rhoda Prevail-Tyoden, the National Secretary of FIDA Nigeria. After her welcome remarks, participants carried out a ‘Walking in Their Shoes’ introduction exercise, in which participants put themselves into the shoes of a 9 year old girl facing sexual abuse and considered how they would go about getting justice in that kind of situation. After the introduction exercise, goodwill messages were delivered by Josephine Inna Ogechi, Commissioner of Police, Anti-Human Trafficking Unit and Godwin Ekang, CSC, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps. The workshop was very interactive and practical as it included group work sessions.
Some of the modules which were covered during the workshop were:
– Violence against Women: The Reality and Factors Underlying VAW
– National Laws and International Conventions Protecting Women from Violence
– Applicable Procedural Laws in Cases of Violence Against Women
