ADVOCACY VISIT TO THE COMMISSIONER OF POLICE, SOKOTO STATE COMMAND

On 14th October 2026, the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA Nigeria), Sokoto State Branch, paid an advocacy visit to the Commissioner of Police, Sokoto State Command, to seek his continued support and collaboration with the Branch, particularly towards the successful hosting of the forthcoming FIDA Nigeria Annual General Conference (AGC) 2026, scheduled to hold from 11th to 14th November 2026 in Sokoto State.
During the visit, the Branch solicited the support and cooperation of the Commissioner of Police in ensuring adequate security throughout the conference. The visit also provided an opportunity to discuss security arrangements for participants and other dignitaries expected to attend the conference from different parts of the country.
In his remarks, the Commissioner of Police assured the Branch of his maximum support and cooperation. He further assured the delegation that police officers would be available and on ground throughout the conference to ensure adequate security and maintain law and order.
The Commissioner also reassured FIDA members and other participants travelling from different states of their safety, emphasising that Sokoto State is secure and welcoming to visitors. He encouraged participants to attend the conference with confidence, assuring them of the Command’s commitment to their safety and security during their stay in the State.
Conclusion
The advocacy visit was successful, as it strengthened the relationship between FIDA Sokoto Branch and the Sokoto State Police Command. The assurance of support and adequate security from the Commissioner of Police represents a significant step towards ensuring a peaceful, safe, and successful hosting of the FIDA Nigeria Annual General Conference (AGC) 2026 in Sokoto State.

ADVOCACY VISIT TO THE COMMANDANT OF THE FEDERAL ROAD SAFETY CORPS (FRSC), SOKOTO STATE COMMAND

On 30th September, 2026, FIDA Nigeria, Sokoto State Branch, paid an advocacy visit to the Commandant of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Sokoto State Command, as part of its preparations for the forthcoming FIDA Nigeria Annual General Conference (AGC), scheduled to hold from 11th to 14th November, 2026, in Sokoto State.
The purpose of the visit was to seek the support and collaboration of the Corps in ensuring the smooth coordination of traffic and the safety of participants throughout the conference.
During the visit, the Branch requested the deployment of FRSC officers to the various venues where AGC activities would take place to assist with traffic control, ensure the free flow of traffic, and promote the safety of conference participants and other road users.
In response, the Commandant assured the delegation of his full support and cooperation towards the successful hosting of the conference. He further promised that FRSC officers would be adequately prepared and available throughout the conference to provide the necessary traffic management and safety services.
Conclusion
The advocacy visit was successful, as the Commandant expressed his commitment to supporting FIDA Sokoto Branch in ensuring the smooth and safe conduct of the AGC. VISIT TO THE COMMANDANT OF THE NIGERIAN SECURITY AND CIVIL DEFENCE CORPS (NSCDC), SOKOTO STATE

On 14th October, 2026, FIDA Nigeria, Sokoto State Branch, paid a courtesy visit to the Commandant of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Sokoto State, as part of its preparations for the forthcoming FIDA Nigeria Annual General Conference (AGC) scheduled to hold from 11th to 14th November, 2026, in Sokoto State.
The purpose of the visit was to seek the support and collaboration of the Corps in ensuring adequate security and the successful conduct of the conference and its associated activities.
During the visit, the Commandant assured the delegation of his support and commitment towards the successful hosting of the AGC. He further promised to deploy officers to the hotels where participants would be accommodated and the various venues where conference activities would take place to ensure adequate security throughout the event.
The Commandant also assured the Branch of his continued support beyond the AGC, particularly in collaborating with FIDA Sokoto Branch to protect and promote the rights of women and children.
Conclusion
The visit was successful and provided an opportunity to strengthen the relationship between FIDA Sokoto Branch and the NSCDC. The Branch appreciates the Commandant’s assurances and commitment and looks forward to sustained collaboration in promoting security, protecting women and children, and advancing access to justice in Sokoto State.

14th October 2020

FIDA Nigeria, Sokoto State branch paid a courtesy visit to the Honorable members of State House of Assembly Sokoto. The purpose of the visit was to introduce the spotlight activities and their support in ensuring speedy adoption of the VAPP Act as Law in the State.

Advocacy Call/Visit to the office of the CP Sokoto State on the 12^th of June, 2020 in response to the alarming increase of gender based violence in Nigeria and Sokoto State due to the COVID-19 pandemic and it’s lock-down. FIDA Nigeria Sokoto State branch under the auspices of the EU-UN spotlight initiative and by mandate advocated to the State commissioner of Police to get his and the entire police force buy-in on the fight against GBV in the state through their quick responses towards arrest, investigation and faster transferring of cases to the Ministry of JUSTICE of just and to indulge them in our activities that aim at capacity strengthening towards ending GBV.

CP SOKOTO CP PLEDGES SUPPORT TO FIGHT AGAINST SEXUAL AND GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE

The Sokoto State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Sani Ka’oje on the 11^th of June 2020, received a delegation of International Federation of Women lawyers (FIDA), Sokoto branch at the State Police Headquarters. In her remarks, the chairperson of the delegation Mrs. Aishatu Abdullahi Illo, stated that the federation aims to advance and promote rights of children and women, however, the purpose of the visit was to advocate for reforms, regarding gender-based violence and rape considering the rising spate of the menace in the country.

In his response, the CP thanked the team for the timely visit in the wake of calls to end all forms of sexual and gender-based violence nationwide. He added that such cases have drastically been reduced in the state, following his zero tolerance for sexual and gender-based violence upon assumption of office. He further urged the delegation to step up their quest to involve governments at all levels and well-meaning individuals with a common goal. The CP finally pledged support to fight against sexual and gender-based violence, also charged the delegation to review legal frameworks to enable curtailment of rampant divorces and to cater for divorced women.

Also speaking, DC SCID, DCP Charles Mozie emphasized on the need to enlighten families of rape victims to support investigations and cushion psychological effects on victims, he equally called for diligent administration of criminal justice.
