Induction of Kings and Queens Club at NUT Hall, Ikorodu – 4th July 2024
FIDA Ikorodu Branch, under the dynamic leadership of Chairperson Abimbola Obaseki, proudly collaborated with the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) and Youth Alive Foundation to induct the Kings & Queens Club on 4th July 2024. This significant event took place at NUT Hall, Ikorodu, marking a pivotal moment for four distinguished schools:
Ayangburen Senior Grammar School

United Junior Grammar School
This induction ceremony was the culmination of a transformative six-week peer educator program. School counselors meticulously selected twenty students from each school to participate in comprehensive training sessions. These sessions covered critical topics, including:
Gender-Based Violence
Human Rights
Child Rights Law
VAPP Law
Recognizing Abuse and Accessing Redress
The induction ceremony featured engaging quizzes with exciting prizes for the participants. Certificates were awarded to the forty students who successfully completed the program, and everyone enjoyed a lively entertainment session. The students were inspired to share their newfound knowledge with their peers, ensuring the training’s ripple effect across their schools.

Advocacy visit to the Palace of The Sekumade of Ipakodo
Advocacy visit to the Palace of The Sekumade of Ipakodo, Oba Bashiru Shotonwa of Ikorodu Lagos State in the company of High Chief Lisa Shotomiwa on the 26th of May, 2023. The visit was to create awareness of the rights and protection of women and children in the palace in line with the tenets of FIDA. His Royal Majesty welcomed us to the Palace and pledge his full support to all of FIDA’s activities and needs. The event was a success.
In commemoration of 2023, International Women’s Day – Themed: DigitALL: Innovation and Technology for gender equality.
FIDA IKORODU BRANCH led by her able Chairperson -Abimbola Obaseki in collaboration with NBA Ikorodu Branch and HYPO Industry went paid a courtesy visit to Elepe Market to celebrate the day with the women wherein they were encouraged to embrace technology as much as they could especially in this era of cashless policy to enhance their sales and also to encourage their Girl child to study Sciences, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) as this is a panacea to Gender equality.
Hypo products and other items were shared to the women. The event was a successful one.
Community Sensitization & Dissemination of Action Plans Against GBV
FIDA Nigeria, IKORODU BRANCH with the support from Ford Foundation on Tuesday 12th July 2022 implemented a sensitization exercise against gender-based violence in Odongunyan /Odonla Community of Ikorodu L.G.A of Lagos State. In addition to the sensitization exercise was the dissemination of community action plans developed by stakeholders under the Project geared towards addressing issues of gender based violence across the community.
The exercise had the active participation of the Baale, Ward Councilor and other Community Leaders representing respective stakeholding groups across the community who carried the sensitization messages to the market and other strategic places in the community.

Inauguration of Branch
On the 8th and 9th of September, 2021, history was made as FIDA Nigeria inaugurated her 39th and 40th branches- FIDA Badagry and FIDA Ikorodu respectively in Lagos State.
The occasion was attended by the Country Vice President, FIDA Nigeria, Rhoda Prevail Tyoden; Regional Vice-President, Africa (North and West) Mrs. Joy Ezeigbo; National Publicity Secretary, Mrs. Eliana Martins; the Asst. National Publicity Sec., Mrs. Lizzy Akah; and Chairperson, FIDA Lagos, Mrs. Philomena Nneji, amongst others.
The CVP, in her opening address, reminded all FIDANS of FIDA’s mission which is to promote, protect, and preserve the rights, interest and well-being of women and children through the use of legal framework to ensure that they all live free from all forms discrimination, violence, and abuse in the society.
She encouraged FIDANS and indeed the key stakeholders in attendance to speak out against Gender-Based Violence/Domestic Violence so as to eradicate all forms of violence in society.
She encouraged the newly inaugurated Badagry and Ikorodu branches to ensure teamwork, cooperation, and unity in their service delivery to better impact the communities and achieve greater heights.
The Regional Vice President, Mrs. Joy Ezeigbo, and the National Publicity Secretary, Mrs. Eliana Martins also stressed the need to focus on the noble aims and objectives of FIDA for effectiveness and efficiency.
Goodwill messages were received from members of the judiciary, the police, learned silks, the NBA, traditional leaders, faith-based groups, and the youth and market women representatives who applauded FIDA for her great works, particularly her quest to move closer to the communities they serve.
