FIDA Plateau Community Sensitization & Dissemination of Action Plans Against GBV
FIDA Plateau on the 6th of July 2022, successfully sensitized the populace of Bukuru-Gyel Community of Plateau State on the rights of women and girls as well as the dangers of violating these rights.
Members of the community surveillance team on GBV earlier constituted on the project were reintroduced to a larger audience of the Jos South Traditional Ruling Council.
FIDA Plateau via her chairperson presented validated copies of the Community Action Plan to the Paramount Ruler of Jos South and members of the Traditional Ruling Council.
The council appreciated FIDA’s efforts toward curbing incidents of GBV in the community and pledged the Council’s commitment to supporting the implementation of the Action Plan. In furtherance of this commitment, the Council allocated an office space to the Surveillance Team to be manned by the Council’s Secretary. This would serve as a safe space where victims/survivors can walk to lodge their complaints.
FIDA Plateau went further to disseminate copies of Community Action Plans to other stake-holding groups across the community.
Three-Day Sensitization Workshop on Promoting Women, Youth, and PWD Inclusion In Key Democratic and Governance Processes.
FIDA Nigeria as part of activities aimed at promoting women, youth and PWD inclusion in key democratic and governance processes conducted a three-day sensitisation workshop for two communities each in 3 area council within the FCT namely; Bwari Area Council (Gaban Tudu, Kufai and Koro communities), Gwagwalada Area Council (Gwako and Kutunku communities) and Kwali Area Council (Yangoji and Koroko communities).
Participants were sensitised on the need for participation in key electoral processes, the provisions of the Electoral Act and the need for supporting more female and youth aspirants in the forthcoming 2023 general elections. They were also mobilized towards participating at the ongoing extended continuous voters registration exercise to enable them to exercise their franchise at the 2023 General Elections.
Copies of the simplified version of the Electoral Act 2022 were distributed to the participants.
FIDA Nigeria will continue the mobilization process in Gwagwalada and Kwali Area councils in the FCT.
