FIDA Plateau to commemorate International Women’s Day 2023 with the theme, “DigitALL: Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality” held a press conference
After delivering the press statement on behalf of the Country Vice President/National President Mrs. Amina Suzana Agbaje, the Chairperson FIDA Plateau Obioma Ngozi Achilefu (Mrs) entertained questions from the press.
She stressed that ICT does not discriminate and so the digital age represents an unprecedented opportunity to eliminate all forms of disparity and inequality against women in society.
FIDA holds DFATD-supported project inception meeting
FIDA Nigeria, Plateau State Branch with the support of the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development, Canada (“DFATD'”), following the flag off of the project on Promoting the Inclusion of Women in Peace Building and Conflict Mitigation Across Communities in Plateau State held an inception meeting.
The meeting which was held on the 4th and 6th of September in Kwok Community, Barkin Ladi LGA and Ta-Hoss Community, Riyom LGA of the state availed stakeholders an opportunity to discuss the prevalence of conflict across the respective communities.
FIDA Nigeria was further able to obtain stakeholders’ commitment and buy-in on the objectives and goals of the project at the meeting.
FIDA Plateau celebrates Children’s Day 2022.
FIDA Plateau led by the Chairperson, Mrs Ngozi Obioma Achilefu paid a visit to Methodist Primary school, beside EBOMI, Jos North to commemorate Children’s Day on the 27th day of May, 2022.
The Chairperson talked on the topic _”Children the building blocks of the Nation.”_ She admonished the pupils to stay away from vices such as stealing, having sexual relationships which will deter them from attaining their goals. She also encouraged them to speak in the face of rape and other acts of violence committed against them or their loved ones as FIDA is always ready to defend them. The Vice-Chairperson, Mrs. Felicia Emeruwa admonished them to stay away from drug abuse.
The Headmistress expressed gratitude to FIDA for choosing the school for this laudable event and prayed that God will continue to bless all FIDA’Sendeavours. To round up the visit, there was dance and refreshments for pupils and their teachers.
International Women’s Day 8th March 2022
FIDA Plateau was at Government Secondary School West of Mines earlier today, to carry out an awareness/Sensitization talk to the students on the essence of International Women’s Day 2022, with the theme “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow”.

On the 8th and 10th of February 2022, FIDA Nigeria, Plateau State Branch with support from Ford Foundation, held her 3rd Town Hall meeting in Mangun Mangu LGA of Plateau State on the theme; Community Actions to address Gender-Based Violence/ Social Norms that entrench Violence Against Women and Girls.

As an Impact of FIDA Nigeria’s advocacy and sensitization activities in Mangun Community, Plateau State, under the Ford Foundation supported the project and in furtherance of FIDA’s sustainability drive, women and girls of the community independently conducted a massive rally in October 2021 that conscientize the populace on the harmful practices and socio-cultural norms that subjugate women and girls; and enlighten the populace on the rights of women and girls, as well as the negative effects of SGBV on the health and overall well-being of women and girls.
This initiative was carried out by community women leaders who have been beneficiaries of the Ford Foundation Project in collaboration with the Mangun Community Surveillance Team against SGBV earlier constituted under the Project.
As part of sustaining this intervention, they inaugurated a Mentorship program where young girls are paired with prominent women within the community to serve as Mentors and Counselors on GBV issues to these young girls.
It was worthy to note that this exercise was implemented by the community women leaders without any form of technical or financial support from FIDA.

16 Days of Activism 2020
On the 27 of November 2020, some Correctional Services Officers, paid a courtesy visit to the FIDA Plateau excos. The purpose was to enlighten FIDA on the non-custodial sentences which is a new innovation in the state. They opted to pay FIDA Plateau a courtesy visit to intimate us of the non-custodial services, before now FIDA Plateau had trained them on the provisions of the ACJL which also contains the non-custodial sentences.
FIDA Plateau on the 25 of November 2020, in collaboration with NHRC, NBA and other CSOs had a rally to kick start the 16days activism. The walk was from the State Secretariat roundabout to the office of the Hon. Commissioner of Women affairs who flagged off the 16days activism on behalf of the first lady of Plateau State.
FIDA Nigeria, Plateau State held the Ford Foundation Project Inception Meeting in Gyel community, Jos South LGA of Plateau State.
The meeting which was held on Monday, the 19th of October, 2020 had all representatives of the community’s gatekeepers present among which was the Wife to the Local Government Man Jos South, Mrs. Patience Dachung who represented the Local Government Chairman.
The meeting commenced at about 1pm with a welcome/opening remark from the Branch’s Chairperson who in her remark urged the Stakeholders to cease the project’s intervention and make all necessary change and improvement around social norms that affects women, girls and the community as a whole.
A collaborative discussion session was held where Stakeholders were allowed to deliberate on their understanding of the project and what promotes Gender Based Violence in the community.
These issues alongside those that came up during the advocacy visits were adopted by the Stakeholders as areas where they are willing to tackle through the project’s intervention and the technical support of FIDA.
A surveillance team was established to serve as the eyes and ears on arising gender based issues around the community and escalate it to FIDA.
Stakeholders showed commitment to support the project. The wife to LG Chairman also assured FIDA of the backings of the Local Government Council in achieving the objectives of the project.
FIDA Jos Hosts a Stakeholders’ Meeting on the Administration of the Criminal Justice Law
FIDA Nigeria, Plateau State branch with support from MacArthur Foundation organized a joint stakeholders meeting on the 16th of Oct 2020 with the Bar, Bench, Police Force and Correctional Services to review the provisions of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law (ACJL) of Plateau state and they highlighted the challenges faced by each stakeholder in implementing the ACJL, as well as creating an environment to enable networking to ensure effective implementation.
ON 11TH JUNE, 2020: FIDA Plateau: Advocacy visit to the Plateau State house of Assembly to advocate for the domestication of VAPP ACT and a bill for the creation of sexual offence desk at the police station.

Courtesy Call To The Chief Judge Of Plateau State- FIDA Plateau visited the Hon. Chief Judge of the state Justice Y. G Dakwak on the 20th of July, 2018. The Chairperson, Hon. Mary Abah Izam intimated the Chief Judge on our activities in the state and congratulated him on his appointment as the substantive Chief Judge of the state following the retirement from service of the former Chief Judge. She also appreciated him for sending a delegation to the Mac Arthur sponsored workshop for stakeholders in the state which held in April and sought for his support for the implementation of the law when passed by the Legislature in the state and to also work on the implementation of the Gender and Equal Opportunities Law (GEO) already in force. The Chairperson made an appeal on the CJ to see into the issue of ridiculous sentences meted on people convicted for rape in the state. The Chief Judge in his response gave assurances of his cooperation.

Courtsey Call To The Speaker Plateau State House of Assembly on the 30th of July, 2018. FIDA Chairperson in the State in presenting her message to the Speaker congratulated him on his recent appointment as Speaker and gave him assurances that FIDA Plateau is desirous of working with the House to give it technical advice on bills before it, especially those related to women and children. In his response, the Speaker applauded FIDA on its achievements in the state, citing the Administration of Criminal Justice Workshop organized by FIDA for Stakeholder in the state in April, 2018. On this note, the Speaker announced the appointment of FIDA Plateau as its Technical Partners for the domestication of the ACJA in the state.
FIDA Plateau in partnership with Centre for Advocacy, Justice and Rights (CAJR) sponsored by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Netherlands through Women For Women International (WFWI) are training women to becoming good Agents for change in three Local Government Areas of the State to wit: Pankshin, Jos East and Riyom Local Government Areas from August 2017 to date. The project is in two phases, phase one elapsed in July, 2018. The project is aimed at training the women on advocacy skills and who to take their messages to, in order to initiate changes in some traditional practices that are harmful to women in these communities. The Phase two of the project commenced in August with a 7 days central training held in Jos for forty women from the aforementioned communities.
FIDA Plateau in conjunction with APURIMAC and NEXUS Funds, organized a two days training on basic mediations skills to FIDANs on the 20th-21st September,2018
FIDA Plateau also paid a courtsey/advocacy visit to the former comissioner of police in person of C.P undie on-17th May,2018 to seek collaborationand synergy on administration of criminal justice and to also advocate for curbing acts of attacks and violence especially on women and children in Plateau State.
FIDA Plateau paid a courtsey visit to the Attorney General of Plateau State on the 10th June,2018 to advocate for the speedy domestication of Administration of Criminal Justice Law /Gender and Equal Opportunity Bill.The visit was also aimed at seeking support interms of granting Fiat to Fida Plateau to prosecute criminal offences related to women and children.
FIDA Plateau in collaboration with Medical Women Association of Nigeria (MWAN),Lady Pharmacist,House of Viden, Nigerian Association of Social Workers in company of His Royal Highness Da Gwom Rwei of Heipang(Tadi Tok) paid a visit to IDP Camp in Heipang on the 14th June 2018 render professional intervention services ranging from health care,legal clinic and relief materials.
