16 Days of Activism 2020

PRO BONO SERVICES: FIDA Ebonyi has since her inauguration rendered pro bono services to indigent women and children. In 2008 FIDA Ebonyi entered into a partnership agreement with UNICEF Enugu to render free legal services to women and children. These activities were carried out by FIDA pro bono lawyers. Unfortunately, the partnership ended in 2015. However, the pro bono services are still running under the chairperson FIDA Ebonyi till date. 

COURTESY CALLS: FIDA Ebonyi paid courtesy calls to Federal Prisons Abakaliki, paediatric department of EBSUTH now FETHA 1 Abakaliki, National Fistula Centre FETHA, Remand home Abakaliki.

COURTSEY CALLS TO PARTNERING AGENCIES: Courtesy calls to some partnering agencies and organisations such as Ministry of Women Affairs, Ministry of Justice, Human Rights and Conflict Resolution Centre, Ebonyi Broadcasting Authority, Nigerian Television Authority Abakaliki. 

SENSITAZATION VISITS: FIDA Ebonyi paid sensitization visit to markets within Abakaliki metropolis to interact and sensitise the women on their rights, remedies and privileges available to them.

OUTREACH CAMPAINGN: FIDA Ebonyi carried out outreach campaign to ten selected schools in Ebonyi State to sensitise school children on rape and rights available to them.

ACTIVE PARTICIPATION IN INTERNATIONAL WOMEN DAY CELEBRATION: Over the years, FIDA Ebonyi has actively participated in activities marking the annual International Women’s Day. In 2018 FIDA Ebonyi attended a one-day workshop organised by the National Orientation Agency in conjunction with the office of Her Excellency, the wife of the Governor at Women Development Centre, Abakaliki.  The theme of the workshop was end Female Genital Mutilation in Ebonyi State. 

MAC-ARTHUR FOUNDATION WORKSHOP: In 2018 FIDA Ebonyi in conjunction with Mac-Arthur Foundation organised a one-day workshop on the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015. Key stakeholders and partners in the justice system were invited by FIDA to the workshop to brainstorm on how to domesticate the Act in the State. 

COURTSEY CALL TO EBONYI STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY: Sequel to the Mac- Arthur foundation workshop, the Executive officers of FIDA Ebonyi paid a courtesy call to the Ebonyi State House of Assembly Chairman House Committee on Legal Matters to deliberate on the need to domesticate the ACJA in Ebonyi State.

THE ENACTMENT OF VAAP LAW: In 2018, when the wife of the State Governor, Chief Mrs. Rachael Umahi took steps to enact the Violence Against All Persons Law in Ebonyi State, FIDA Ebonyi led by the chairperson Ngozi Okpareke actively engaged in all the processes leading to the enactment of the Law.
