FIDA-Nigeria Gwagwalada Branch Paralegal Training Workshop and Inauguration of FIDA-NIG University of Abuja Students Chapter
On July 28, 2024, the Gwagwalada Branch of FIDA-Nigeria, under Chairperson Prof. Josephine Agbonika, SAN, organized a paralegal training workshop at the University of Abuja. The event commenced at 11:00 AM with an opening prayer, followed by the FIDA Anthem and the Nigerian National Anthem.
The workshop was officially opened by the Chairman of the occasion, Hon. Justice Ajoke Adepoju, the Presiding Judge of the Gwagwalada Division, who was represented by FIDA Matron Hajia Jumai Husseni.
In her welcome address, the Chairperson highlighted the workshop’s objectives, focusing on promoting, protecting, and preserving the rights of women and children in society. She also encouraged women to remain diligent and focused on their daily activities, emphasizing the importance of not allowing domestic responsibilities to hinder their pursuit of personal goals and aspirations.
Following the welcome address, students received paralegal training from two FIDA facilitators, using the paralegal manual as a guide. After the training session, Deputy Vice President Hajia Laraba Shuaibu inaugurated the FIDA Students Chapter at the University of Abuja. However, the swearing-in of the elected officers was postponed due to the absence of some elected members.
The event was graced by the presence of the FIDA-Nigeria Abuja Chairperson, the Deputy Vice Chancellor, and other distinguished guests. Goodwill messages were delivered by all dignitaries, and the event concluded with a group photograph.
On August 9, 2024, the Gwagwalada Branch of FIDA-Nigeria, led by the Chairperson, conducted the swearing-in ceremony for the elected officers of the FIDA-Nigeria University of Abuja Students Chapter. All elected officers were present to take the oath of office in the presence of FIDA executives. The Chairperson offered words of encouragement, and the event concluded with a photo session.
INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE AFRICAN CHILD
On 16th June 2022 Prof. J. A. A. Agbonika, SAN, the Chairperson FIDA Gwagwalada Branch led members to celebrate the International Day of the African Child with a visit to Paiko Kore Community in Gwagwalada Area Council, to sensitize parents and children, especially women. The men were not left out.
It was an opportunity to tell them the importance of education and ways to help eliminate harmful practices against children in Africa.
It was a bit challenging to communicate with them in English but thanks to our great interpreter, Mrs. Zara Balami, the Welfare Secretary, FIDA Gwagwalada Branch who translated from English to Hausa.
The community came out in their numbers to listen. Apart from the training, FIDA Gwagwalada Branch made a donation of foodstuffs to the women and children.
