FIDA Nigeria Announces Vacancy for Programme Officer

The International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) Nigeria is a non-profit, non-governmental organisation made up of over 2 000 female lawyers with several years’ experience in utilising the law to address social problems in Nigeria. The organisation has clear objects set out in its Constitution including the enhancement, promotion, protection and preservation of the rights and welfare of women and children in Nigeria. For over 50 years of its existence, FIDA Nigeria has spread across the Nigerian federation with branches in 33 states excluding Jigawa, Bauchi and Zamfara State. FIDA Nigeria currently has some key projects in the North Eastern parts of Nigeria aimed at providing access to justice to indigent persons, particularly women and children.
FIDA Nigeria is recruiting to fill the position below:
Job title: National Programme Officer
Location: Abuja, Nigeria
Vacancy Type: Service Contract (SC)
Contract Duration: Initial Period of 6 months (renewable based on performance)
This position is located in the FIDA Nigeria National Secretariat, Court of Appeal Headquarters Abuja, Nigeria. The successful candidate may however be expected to travel out of Abuja to other states of Nigeria for the purpose and duration of implementing projects. Under the overall guidance of the FIDA Nigeria National President/Country Vice President, and supervision of the Programme Manager, the National Programme Officer will:
- Provide support for the projects’ overall management and coordination.
- Work in close teaming with other colleagues of the project to create synergy and achieve full coordination of project activities and effective project partnerships with international and Nigerian stakeholders
- Provide substantive inputs for project activities aimed at strengthening legal frameworks and systems that affect women and children;
- Carry out substantive and organizational liaison especially with the national stakeholders.
Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will carry out the following tasks:
- Provide substantive input on legal, criminal justice and rule of law aspects for assigned areas and activities of the project. This will entail researching, compiling and preparing substantive papers, draft concept notes, draft agendas etc. as well as assisting in the substantive conduct of project activities.
- Carry out substantive and organizational liaison especially with the project’s national stakeholders. Coordinate and liaise regularly on project activities planning and implementation with relevant national partners (including designated focal points and other senior professionals), and international partners present in Nigeria.
- When required participate in and support courtesy visits to key partners and stakeholders along with our on behalf of the National Officers.
- Contribute to the preparation of project reports, including reports on budget expenditure. Contribute to the preparation of funding proposals, reports, technical briefings, background papers, briefing notes, and speeches related to the project.
- Carry out programmatic and administrative tasks necessary for the achievement of expected results of the project. Provide the necessary substantive and administrative support to project activities as required.
- Facilitate the smooth and effective flow of communication with FIDA Nigeria States branches, by maintaining regular contact, providing required information, etc.
- Support the Programme Manager and other project staff in following-up communication with partners, including official letters, request for technical assistance, and the process of identifying participants and national experts, including trainers, for activities under projects.
- Advise the Programme Manager and other project staff of local considerations and realities for proper and effective project implementation, as well as on ways to strengthen partnerships with beneficiary institutions.
- Represent FIDA Nigeria at meetings, workshops and seminars, following approval of the National President/Country Vice President, National Secretary or Programme Manager, and report back to the management of the organisation.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Programme Manager, the National Secretary and other National Officers.

ü Meets timeline for communication of feedback to complainants.
1. Minimum Required Experience:
Þ 3 year(s) work experience in development with closer focus on gender and child rights issues
Þ Progressive responsible experience in legal, criminal justice, crime prevention or other work closely related to the rule of law
Þ Experience in project management and implementation highly desirable
Þ Work experience in implementing capacity building activities on gender based laws and with criminal justice entities in Nigeria is highly desirable.
Þ Master’s Degree
