FIDA NIGERIA NEC MEETING IN KWARA STATE

FIDA Nigeria on 28th April 2017 converged for the National Executive Council meeting with the theme “Protection of children and young persons from sexual abuse: practical lesson" in Ilorin, Kwara State. The meeting had in attendance representatives of the Nigerian Bar Association, Kwara State Government, FIDA members and former State chairpersons. The meeting commenced with a capacity building workshop on proper prosecution of cases of child and sexual abuse and deliberations on how they can effectively contribute to efforts aimed at protecting our children from sexual abuse.

The Country Vice President (CVP) FIDA Nigeria, Inime Aguma called on the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, its States Ministries and agencies; the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) and all its related agencies; the Nigerian Police Force; the Judiciary at National and State levels; the National Assembly; the Presidency and all agencies and institutions associated thereto; United Nations Agencies; States' Embassies and High Commissions in Nigeria; the National Human Rights Commission; Faith Based Organizations; Civil Society Organizations and all relevant stakeholders (State and Non-state actors) at State and National levels to rise up to their roles in giving our children the hope of a safer and better future. The CVP emphasized that all stakeholders should come together to seek creative ways of addressing the existing problems and those that resulted from our mistakes in the past. She stated that “it is time for us to do things differently, with greater commitment and in ways we have not done before; being cognizant of the fact that today would have been much better for our children if we had done well in the past”. Let us work together for TOGETHER WE CAN DO MORE!
