FIDA NIGERIA SENSITIZES STUDENTS ON THE PROVISIONS OF THE VAPP ACT AND CHILD RIGHTS ACT

As part of efforts to address the growing menace of child abuse and other rights violation across the country, FIDA Nigeria with support from IPAS on 6th of June 2016 visited Junior secondary school, Life Camp to sensitize the students on the need for them to leverage on Child rights Act 2003 and VAPP Act 2015 to ensure that their rights are protected.
The FIDA Nigeria, National secretary Mrs. Rhoda Tyoden-Moore told the students that FIDA is an organisation made up of women lawyers established to fight for the protection of rights of women and children.
She urged the students to always speak up whenever there is any form of abuse by an adult.
The FIDA Abuja Chairperson, Mrs. Ngozi Ikenga while also speaking on Child rights Act 2003 and VAPP Act 2015 at the outreach, told the students the need to know all the contents of two Acts to enable them know when their rights are being violated. She urged the students to report to their school authority whenever there is attempt by any adult to abuse them.
During the event, the students in a 3 piece drama demonstrated the effects and punishment for offenders as contained in the VAPP Act.
FIDA Nigeria also donated some copies of the Act, novels, educational and writing materials.
In her remarks, the Principal of the school, Mrs. Eniolorunfe Victoria commended FIDA delegation for their humanitarian works in ensuring that women and children’s rights are protected especially by the visiting to her school to enlighten the students on the Child rights Act and VAPP Act. She assured FIDA Nigeria her maximum cooperation in ensuring that these atrocities committed on daily basis are minimized in our society starting from her school.
